So long Get Carter carpark

The car park made famous in the Get Carter film starting Michael Caine is to be demolished. There have been many attempts to save it over the years, but it is now falling down on it's own.This weekend Gateshead council and Tesco are opening the top of the car part up to the public for the last time.Because the place is falling apart we all needed to ware hard hats, undergo a safety briefing, and walk with cushion. We also needed to sign something to protect the council. It was refreshing that health and safety was not used as an excuse not to do it.
We did have to queue for about an hour, and we also walked a bit to the car park forgetting it was a car park and there was still some parking available.
If you read this before 5pm on the 27th April 2007 I recommend you pop along and see a bit of history, and some of the best Newcastle and Gateshead views you will ever see. Some pictures below.
