Tips for charities people asking for money...

In the past I did get a lot of charities calling up and asking for donations, and I did not notice but we have recently had a bit of a gap, until today. Being the kind and caring person I am I will give a few tips for if you want to ask me for some money. These may seem so basic and hardly worth reading but are rules that are broken all the time.

1) Don't call from a noisy call centre. I want to feel that my donation to make a difference and not disappear on bonuses and admin charges.

2) Know about what you are collecting about. I will only give you money if I like what you are collecting for, so I will ask questions.

3) Don't offer me credit to donate now and pay later. Just why?

4) When I ask you to send me a letter outlining what the money will go to then congratulations, you have got past the first step in the interview process, just remember to send it through or I will forget about you.

5) When I say that we do not give donations over the phone and outline our policy for donations then please listen because you talking lots does not change the policy or stop me sticking to it.

6) Be professional, realistic and treat me as an equal. You are the public face of your charity and if I don't like you it reflects badly on your charity. I am also semi-intelligent so don't talk down to me or I will not like you, not like your charity and not give you money.

There are probably a few more points, but that is a good start for you to work with.
