Question: How do you destory a CD?

A colleague asked me the best way to destroy a CD with confidential data on it and I must confess that I did not have a good answer. I can think of many ways of destroying a CD, most of them being fun, but the data would still be on the disk, juts very very hard to access. Scratching is good, but the data is still there, breaking is good (but hard) and the data is still there, and ripping the shiny surface is also good, but the data is still on the disk. Have you any recommendations?
One final question, could/should an ond CD be placed in the plastics recycling box?
