How to stage a public demonstration

This is just a quick tip to anyone wanting to arrange a public demonstration to bring a topic to people's attention.

For reference I believe such demonstrations are a good thing in our society, and a fare trade of you time for other peoples attention. If your demonstration starts to adversely affect others from inappropriately upsetting to bringing down there property then that is bad, but let's not get off topic.

This morning I passed what I think was a demonstration on the side of a roundabout at the top of the Fossway in Newcastle. I see the logic in being there as many thousands of people pass. The floor in the logic is that they will be concentrating on the roundabout (as I was) and although may clock that something is happening will not have enough time to read what it is all about (as I did not). You are also increasing the chance of drawing someones attention when it is needed on the road.

My suggestion is to use one of the bridges over the Byker bypass where there are many seconds to read any signs, no junctions or pedestrians to worry about, or even better split the demonstration to all the roads approaching the roundabout where everyone is stopped and there is plenty of thinking and reading time.

Finally if you know what the event was about then I would love to know.
